![]() due to the poor quality results that I experienced with it. Just making a long story short - I would NOT use the software if it was completely FREE. Perhaps, I should have used the trial period but thought it would be good software so I bought without trying first. I bought AfterShot Pro 2 a couple months ago thinking it would perhaps be good software for versatile processing of Canon CR2 RAW files and hoping it would allow me to do more of my processing in Raw before creating my normal 16 bit per channel TIF files for any further needed (or desired) processing in Photoshop.Īfter investing more than 40 hours with the software over a three week period, I found it basically worthless for me so I chose to exercise the 30 day allowable return for refund. So far, except for speed issues, I've had no issues such as wrote: Upoint is a thing of the past as far as Nikon is concerned. If you dig into NX-D you can find most tools. Nikon made the mistake of using the title 'Capture' in both programs and that made for an expectation that NX-D was in fact an up grade. NX-D is NOT a replacement for Capture NX2. Lastly, whenever I crop an image I get rubbish like this: Also, the convert to jpeg is horrible slow compared with NX2. There is a good assortment of tools in NX-D if you have another editing program that will do advanced editing to compliment it.Ĭorel has lost me as a had a quick play with NXD but it seems to be missing a lot that is in Capture NX2 (upoint technology, can't find double threshold, selective sharpening/noise reduction etc). If you do a comparison with NX-D you maybe surprised. But ASP was a real weak link in my workflow. I'm a long time user of Jasc/Corel PSP and still use it for almost all my editing. ![]() Now with a D7100 I'm more than happy with NX-D. For the first time I saw what my files were really like. ![]() However along came Nikons FREE Capture NX-D. Thought I was 'happy' with the results from a D7000 via Bibble/ASP. I was a long time user of Bibble then ASP. Īm I flogging a dead horse here? Any open source products which have good noise reduction and sharpening? You really can't see this unless you process the nef so I've uploaded it at. In Aftershot the sharpen and noise reduction seem to have no effect. In Capture NX 2 (which is no longer supported by Nikon) I can mask the chaser, sharpen a little and then mask the background and reduce noise (unfortunately I cannot invert the mask making things easier). I tried uploading a NEF but the forum does not seem to accept it (so this is the in camera JPEG which is already sharpened and noise reduction applied). 2 of my lenses are not in the lens corrections database. Perfectly Clear (a plugin I got with the package which online videos show good things about) seems to do no more than over expose an image and make it look really washed out. If you load a jpeg they do seem to do something.ģ. You can push the sliders all the way up and I see almost no change to the image. both the sharpening and noise reduction seem to do nothing but make the image flicker briefly. For example, a corrupt or unreadable file might have caused the application to shut down."Ģ. AfterShot 2 keeps crashing - e.g., it crashes and when you restart it says "A problem occurred the last time AfterShot 2 was running. This is AfterShot 2 64 bit edition and the images I played with were nefs from a D7100.ġ. I'm so disappointed with it I'm starting to wonder if I'm doing something wrong. I realise AfterShot 2 is not AfterShot Pro but I've been really disappointed with it. I'd heard good things about Aftershot (and watched a number of youtube videoas) and PSP so thought I'd give it a try. ![]() I saw a good deal on Corel PaintShop Pro X7 Ultimate a few days ago and it came with a lot of extras for not a lot of money.
